No one is entirely happy with the way they look, and in today’s society it’s becoming easier and easier to change that. Whether you want to look younger, slimmer, smoother, curvier or flatter, ever increasing numbers of people are turning to cosmetic surgery for a quick beauty fix, and with so many perfect looking celebrities showing us how it can be done the possibilities seem endless. But can surgery really buy the happiness we crave? And how far should we go in pursuit of the perfect body?
In a society where minor cosmetic procedures are no more uncommon than trips to the dentist, there are those who are convinced that the trend has already overtaken us. People, particularly girls, of a younger and younger age are making huge decisions about their appearance that will affect them for the rest of their lives. Even by today’s standards no surgery is completely without risk, wouldn’t it be better not to gamble unnecessarily with our looks and make the best of what we have instead?
But for many people it's a lot more than just worrying about whether they look good. The serious hangups some people have with their looks the issues they have with their appearance are often the underlying cause mental problems like depression or low confidence, which can affect their everyday lives and hold them back. If these people are sure that correcting the things they hate about themselves using surgery is the right choice for them, it could make them happier and surely that's their decision? We’ve all experienced the confident feeling you get when you know you look your best, and if getting liposuction or a breast augmentation could help people to get the self esteem boost they need then it really could improve lives. Having cosmetic surgery is a big step that no one should ever take without being completely sure it’s what they want, but ask one of the thousands of people who have been given a whole new life, they would say they don't regret a second of it.
